October is the beginning of the best half of the year for me. The next six months include Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, my birthday and Valentine’s Day. Sometimes we even get Easter in the mix! I love decorating for the holidays and now that I own my home, I’m really looking forward to decking it out!
Halloween’s up first and I’m so ready! It’s easy to get overwhelmed when all the great new decorations show up in stores. I tend to be a bit magpie-ish when it comes to shopping so I had to keep myself very keenly focused. How? Well, I made a plan of course!
STEP ONE: Pick a color scheme
I do this as the first thing because, as I mentioned, if left to my own devices, I will buy everything and then it just ends up being a big mish-mash of stuff. I always go straight to Pinterest to find ideas and I’d pinned this party from Style Me Pretty ages ago and it was finally time to break it out. I made myself a little color palette sheet to reference when needed.
STEP TWO: Decide what you really want to and can accomplish
So, my dreams are always bigger than I can really get done and this year was the year I decided to turn that around. I made a clear list of things I wanted to accomplish to make sure I took a real look at it. Once I did, I was able to see that what was actually important to me and how I could make that work with my energy and schedule. I wanted to party with my friends, yes, but that didn’t need to be a lavish dinner party. It could be a fun movie party where we watched the old 80s and 90s Halloween cartoons we know and love. I could decorate the house but I wasn’t going to go all the way with it, decking out every room and corridor. There were important spots, like the main living area, and then spots like my office that just needed hints, such as adding some flair to the bar cart that functions as the landing zone.
STEP THREE: Make a list!
In my case, I made several. They looked like:
Once I did that, I could break things down and see what I needed to buy and what I needed to do for each.
STEP FOUR: Get it on your to do list and GET. IT. DONE!
The easiest/hardest part can be taking all your awesome ideas and then making them happen. However, if you pile everything into a few to do lists, like shopping, decorating, etc., that should make it a lot easier. Put the shopping on your calendar. And, a little tip that really helps me? Make a second list of things that will take less than five minutes to do. Try to knock a few of these off every day and you’ll be good to go in no time at all!
Thanks for checking out the blog everyone! A couple of fun things coming up:
- The next post is going to be something a little weird for me. I’m going to be making a fashion post! Say whaaaa?! Yeah! It’s not something I’ll be doing often, but I made myself a pretty cute Halloween capsule wardrobe, so I wanted to share.
- New design is incoming! Yes, this one is very very temporary, thank goodness!
Hope you all have a great weekend! This is the first one of fall and the last one before October so make it count!
