Another dear friend’s birthday has come and gone and that means it’s time for another crafting post! However, this one took an interesting turn.
Originally, I had intended to make something very different. Adriana and I both play World of Warcraft and she’d mentioned that Uldum was her favorite of the zones. She also dresses most frequently in 50s-style dresses. My original idea was to make something really fun and poppy with lots of polka dots, camels and sand dunes. Then a random thought popped into my head… what if I made her a vintage-style postcard instead?
This required me getting up out of my comfort zone, booting up Photoshop and seeing what I could come up with. Luckily there are several great tutorials to help you do this. Here are a few I used:
- How to Create a Vintage Type Postcard
- How to Create a Retro Boxing Poster in Photoshop
- Create a Retro Photo and Background
The fonts I chose were called Remachine Script (for the Greetings from) and, unsurprisingly, for the Uldum, I chose Vacation Postcard. I grabbed two great photos, the one for the background and one for the letters, and then started to work. It wasn’t too hard once I got started (if you know how to do clipping masks, you’ll be OK) but the colors and such took a lot of tweaking to get just right.
The end result is something I’m really pleased with. I printed it out on matte paper, added a little mat trim of sunflower line dance from Lawn Fawn’s Let’s Polka collection and put it in a frame that reminded me of all the great mid-century modern furniture I see.
I pulled from the Let’s Polka and Hello Sunshine again to make a quick tag on my Cameo, attached it with some baker’s twine and it was ready for gifting!
I hope you like it as much as my friend did. Have a great day!
