The hubby and I made it official a few weekends ago and completed step one of our total apartment rework by finally getting the new table in place. I’m so excited because it looks fantastic and we now have a small dining set for our patio which we also made use of this weekend! Winter in Los Angeles really is a joke and on Sunday, it was too warm to eat our lunch inside so we went outside. Crazy!
The table is fantastic, as are the chairs and matching bench which got good use when we had folks over. But every time I open up my dish cupboard and see the growing stack of chipped or cracked dishes, I realize more and more that the time for new dishes is coming sooner than I’d hoped. I can’t hate. My husband and I are rough on dishes and these poor girls are about 60 years old. They’re no spring chickens!
As I mentioned in a previous post, I don’t want to do what I did last time and just buy a set of dishes and be done with it. I’d really like a nice diverse collection of items from different places. Now, that’s definitely harder than just going out and buying myself a new set of something pretty (why hello, Kate Spade china!) but I think in the end it will be a much better option!
I’m also slowing down a bit right now because we’re hesitantly looking for new apartments. Our current place is fantastic. It’s in a great neighborhood, close to everything including the husband’s office. However, if we move a five minute drive from here, we could save a thousand dollars a month and that’s nothing to sneeze at! The biggest issue is, of course, finding a place that will welcome our Finny with open arms.
Until that decision is made (and it has to be made soon. Our lease is running out!), I’ve had to put a pause on purchases of all kinds.
